Jorgen KristiansenJorgen Kristiansen has an educational background in civil engineering, and in transport infrastructure planning and design. He has obtained a PhD about the impact of transport infrastructure on regional development. During the last 25 years, Jorgen Kristiansen has been engaged in research, consultancy, monitoring and evaluation within the transport sector, both in the Danish context and internationally. Presently, he is an independent researcher.

1964-71 Working in private consultancy firms with design, tendering and supervision on civil engineering works in Denmark and the arctic (Greenland).

1972-74 Lecturing on structural design at the Danish Academy of Engineering.

1974-80 Assistant and associate professor under the M.Sc. Programmes for Civil Engineering, Planning, and International Technology Planning, within the fields of road design, traffic engineering and transport planning.

1980-83 Lecturing on traffic engineering and spatial planning at Ardhi Institute, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

1983-93 Associate professor under the M.Sc. Programmes for Civil Engineering, Planning, and International Technology Planning, within the fields of road design, traffic engineering and transport planning.
Research and consultancy on European transport corridor development, freight transport information systems, transport infrastructure, institutional framework and regional development.

1994-95 National Expert (END) for the European Commission in Brussels under the former Directorate General for Transport (DG VII). Elaboration of the strategic transport policy sections of the EU specific transport research programme under the FP4 (1994-98).

1995-2000 The Tacis Programme: Monitoring all over Russia of primarily transport sector projects. Most of the projects were about the organisational and institutional transition of the sector, and about capacity building and training.

1995-2001 Associate professor under the M.Sc. Programmes for Civil Engineering, and Planning, within the fields of road design, traffic engineering and transport planning, except for leave periods in Russia.
Ad hoc assistance to the European Commission regarding the selection of research contracts under the transport research programmes on sustainable mobility and intermodality within the EU framework programmes for research and technological development.

2001-2004 Associate professor under the M.Sc. Programmes for Civil Engineering, and Planning, within the fields of road design, traffic engineering and transport planning.

2000-2010 Short-term monitoring and evaluation specialist on EU financed development projects in the ACP region (Malawi, Lesotho, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone); the Caribbean (Jamaica, Guyana, Suriname); the ALA region (Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan); Jordan; Eastern Europe (Russia, Albania); and the TRACECA corridor (Armenia, Georgia, Romania, Bulgaria).

2004-2007 Project coordinator for the SUTRANET research project under the Interreg IIIB North Sea Programme, with the aim of developing sustainable goods transport systems in order to enhance regional development in the North Sea Region.

2005-2013 Associate professor emeritus at the Department of Planning, Aalborg University, Denmark.

2013-2014 Appointed by the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science as the Danish Committee Member of the TUD (Transport and Urban Development) Domain within the COST Programme. All the domain committees of the COST programme were closed down as from October 2014.
